Priceless Pet Rescue
Ashlee Price has a true passion for animals – and even more so when they are in need of help. As one of the volunteers at the Priceless Pet Rescue animal shelter in Chino Hills, she knows that she can make a real difference in the lives of these animals.
“I could not imagine my life without rescuing dogs,” said Price, who is the daughter of the center’s directors. She adds that the shelter’s no-kill policy is something she finds extremely important to her.
Price emphasized that Priceless Pet Rescue is the only shelter of its type in Chino Hills, and so it provides a crucial service when owners can no longer look after their pets. It might be that re-homing has become the only option due to tragic events, or simply that the owner no longer wants the animal. Either way, Priceless Pet Rescue is there, along with its feline equivalent, Cat Love Rescue. The two come together to make up The Orphanage, a new but growing adoption center.
“The Orphanage is essential to our community,” said Price. Most of the adoptions carried out through Priceless Pet Rescue are done there. They also have very strong ties with local schools. Chino Hills High is among these, as its students are given the opportunity to spend volunteer hours at the shelter where there is a thriving work experience program. Students benefit not only from performing a fulfilling and worthy task, but also from getting volunteer hours in a fun and accessible way.
A growing part of the work comes through the Mobile Adoptions program, which is available at several locations, including the Chino Hills branch of PetSmart and Petco in Chino. Help is always welcome from the community. Price points out that “generous donors” are all that keep the operation afloat. Like the rest of the volunteer staff, she works without pay, and the shelter does not receive a single cent in funding from any source other than donations.
On their website, Priceless Pets states that if this were an ideal world, its services would not be needed. Unfortunately, not every pet owner is the type who loves their pet like a true family member. In the real world, because of irresponsible breeding and careless ownership, 10 pets die every minute in the U.S. With your help, Priceless Pets can give some of the animals that would otherwise face being euthanized a better life in a new home.
Asked how donors could help the animal shelter, Price said that money could be given via www.pricelesspetrescue.org or directly to the shelter. At the adoption center, the friendly staff are always happy to receive your generous gifts of toys, treats, blankets, towels, cleaning products, and dog food.
Anyone interested in visiting The Orphanage can call in between noon and 7 PM Wednesdays through Fridays, noon and 5 PM Saturdays, or noon and 4 PM Sundays. They are always happy to accept inquiries from prospective volunteers who can submit applications through the website or via email.
