The 1979 Chino Hills Specific Plan, under the guidance of the County of San Bernardino, jump started the growth of this relatively young but thriving community. Three years later, in 1982, Chino Hills already had over 12,000 residents in about 4,000 homes. The addition of the Vellano Country Club community, along with the construction of The Shoppes at Chino Hills, worked to make this area an even bigger draw for new residents.
Since the incorporation of Chino Hills in 1991, the population has grown from 42,000 to over 76,000. New neighborhoods, homes and businesses are popping up every year as the community continues to grow and be further developed. Notably, most neighborhoods are designed in a village setup in which homes are placed within walking distance of schools, shopping centers, and parks.
